The Omni Center-sponsored activities at 2008 Earthfest/Springfest on Dickson in Fayetteville will take place on April 26th and as always, the Omni Center will host a folk music concert on stage as part of the Earth Day celebration at the Walton Arts Center Rose Garden (at 495 W Dickson St, in Fayetteville - See map below for driving directions). Many will remember the very successful ‘ Global Warming Maze’ at last years Springfest - a hard act to follow, but Omni is determined to top it.

This year’s event will also include a ‘Polar Arcade’– a carnival with environmental concerns as its focus. There will be arcade games with a global warming theme, a live medicine show with an elixir that eliminates global warming, an environmental quiz show for kids, a fortune telling polar bear, an exotic two headed ‘toxic mermaid’, a tent featuring local ‘green’ vendors, a kids’ craft tent and a movie tent showing ‘The Story of Stuff’ and ‘The Lorax’ all day long.

Best of all, folks that complete the Polar Arcade games will get a free healthy snow cone, complements of the Omni Center and Ozark Natural Foods.

Musical guest include ‘Shout Lulu’, ‘Strange Heroes’, ‘The Cave Boys’, Dan Dean/ Laura Kelly, ‘Bite Me’ (an environmental performance group) and a live medicine show and kids environmental quiz show interspersed throughout the day. From 3:00 to 4:00 there will be a celebration concert of monthly Omni’s Open Mic with an environmental theme. The stage will be completely solar powered by Rock Grove Sun Company.

Dozens of volunteers have come together to make this happen including shifts from local luminaries such as Harmless T Jester, Flip Putthoff, and Mayor, Dan Coody all playing the role of ‘master barker’.

It all starts at 11:00 on Saturday the 26th of April at the Walton Arts Center Rose Garden (East end of the building) and goes to 4:00. The event is designed to be both educational and fun and is appropriate for families and folks of all ages.

This is the schedule for the Folk Stage:

Volunteers are still needed for OMNI’s Earthfest/Polar Arcade.
We need volunteers for 2 1/2 hour shifts from 11am-1:30 pm and 1:30 pm - 4pm (Tear down from 4pm-6pm).
Some of the highlights of the day include: A Polar Arcade with 6 Carnival type games that teach about the environment (if you want to know about the whole event and games in detail, let me know and Donna will send you a detailed plan).
We will have an OMNI Video Underground Movie Theater, and we’ll need helpers to set up chairs and make sure that all run smoothly . . . meet and greet moviegoers etc.
Eco-Kids Craft Area
We need volunteers to Meet and Greet at the entrances, help with Snow cones, Set up on Friday evening and tear down Saturday evening.
MOSTLY, WE NEED Polar Bear BARKERS (We provide masks). Barkers are the folks that run the arcade games (STEP RIGHT UP FOLKS). We would like to have theatrical types for barkers, but each barker needs an assistant to set the games back up, or pick up the rings from the toss games. The assistant doesn’t have to be a performer like the barker.
